Biomass Energy research Team

Research objectives

Biomass is the only renewable carbon-containing fuel, which can be made into various energy and chemical products through different transformation methods, which has the unique advantage of replacing fossil fuels comprehensively. The large-scale exploitation and utilization of biomass can be considered as an important way to achieve sustainable development of energy and environment, and its utilization technology has been highly valued and developed rapidly in recent decades. But at present, the problem of low conversion efficiency, single product and lower added value still puzzles the development of biomass energy industry, and it is urgent to develop a new generation of high efficiency conversion of biomass and the technology of comprehensive utilization.

This research team focused on pyrolysis, gasification and combustion as the representative of biomass thermochemical conversion system research, the core idea is based on the unique physical and chemical characteristics of biomass raw materials, master of thermal chemical conditions of biomass and its coupling reaction process mechanism and migration law, through the raw material conditioning, process control and product upgrading, to achieve the target product oriented control transformation. At the same time, a variety of high value-added products, and “kill and dry” the biomass. On this basis, the development of advanced use of technology to promote industrial development.


Research direction

Biomass pyrolysis, focusing on biomass catalytic pyrolysis of liquid fuels and platform compounds, pyrolysis polygeneration.

Biomass gasification and combustion, with emphasis on biomass-directed gasification for hydrogen production, syngas and methane, biomass forming, biomass burning and co-firing applications.

Biomass-based products and their applications focus on biomass carbon-based materials, adsorbents and catalysts, biochar, bio-oil upgrades, and biogas combustion.
