On March 27, 2012, the Ministry of Education of China officially approved the establishment of the China-EU Clean and Renewable Energy Institute of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and relied on the State Key Laboratory of Coal Combustion (Huazhong University of Science and Technology) to run schools. The Chinese team represented by Huazhong University of Science and Technology is united by the European team represented by Paris Hi-Tech. The China-EU School of Clean and Renewable Energy aims to cultivate high-quality talents in the field of clean energy, build a platform for long-term cooperation between Chinese and European experts, scholars and research institutions to meet the growing demand of China's economic and social development for clean and renewable energy talents and technologies.

So far, the Chinese government and the European Commission have established two colleges in China: China Europe International Business School and China Europe Law School. As the third Sino-foreign cooperative education institution established by the China-EU government, the China-EU Clean and Renewable Energy Institute will strengthen the links and cooperation between China and Europe by establishing a platform for exchange and display of new technologies in the field of clean and renewable energy between China and Europe. The China-EU Clean and Renewable Energy Institute has become a model for education and research cooperation between China and Europe.

Since its inception, the Central European Institute of Clean and Renewable Energy, supported by the State Key Laboratory of Coal Combustion, has hosted hundreds of European scholars to teach and research activities at China University of Science and Technology, which has greatly promoted Sino-European cooperation in clean renewable energy.
