Obtained the Huazhong University of Technology (Huazhong University of Science and Technology predecessor) Power Department of a bachelor's and master's degree in 1984 and 1987 respectively, 1987-1989 as a power department lecturer; 1993 received Ph. D. in mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley. Assistant professor of mechanical engineering and Materials science, Duke University in 1993-1997, associate professor, Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering, University of California, Los Angeles in 1997-2001; joined MIT Mechanical Department in 2001, was promoted as a professor in 2004, and the Dean of 2014. The National Natural Science Foundation of the United States (NSF) Outstanding Youth Fund winners, the Guggenheim Foundation members, the American Institute of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the United States Physics Association (APS), 2010 elected the U.S. National Academy of Engineering. He has made outstanding contributions in the field of heat transfer, energy conversion and nanotechnology.
